Born the second prince of Glenbrook, Roland was 20 years old when his kingdom was invaded by the neighboring country of Aesfrost. Once a spare of little significance, he suddenly became the linchpin of a fallen kingdom with loyal and corrupt subjects alike vying to be at his side. Broken-hearted by the sacrifices of his people, he faked his death and toiled away in the shadows of a trusted vassal's army until he could reclaim Glenbrook, all while the burning desire for vengeance threatened to consume him.
In the days following his ascension as king, the people at large decried his return and denounced him as a coward and a tyrant. Disillusioned with his ability to rule, Roland eventually reached his breaking point and was summarily overthrown, after which he left all that he cherished behind to roam the continent of Norzelia alone.
Years later, he adopted the mantle of a monk in service to the impoverished peoples abandoned by the new Glenbrook and now awaits the day of his reluctant prominence.
